Kristina & Alan

WOW, what a day this was. To start it was Stef’s 1st wedding, and our first wedding together as The Tattered Veil! We had a ball and shot very well together, we’re going to do very well with this endeavour.

We arrived at the salon and took a few pictures of Kristina, her mom and sister, and then headed over to The Stanley Hotel in Estes Park. Estes Park is SO BEAUTIFUL.. I would live there in a heartbeat! I love that you have to cross the lake on this looong bridge to get into town- which is nestled in a valley of the Rocky Mountains. The Stanley overlooks Estes Park, very majestic! That day alone (08-08-08) there were 12 weddings at the hotel.. Crazy.

Oh, did I mention Kristina is PREGNANT! YAY!

After getting ready in their suite, we headed up to the ceremony site. Stef and I had no idea it was a 30 minute 4×4 ride of tilts and bumps. Was rather funny to see this jeep barreling through the woods carrying a bride, her maid and two photographers. Once up the mountain, we found ourselves overlooking the whole valley. It was a pretty gloomy day, which we were thrilled about- perfect lighting! Looking out across the valley I can see why Kristina and Alan chose this location. It was breathtaking!

This is going UP!

And looking back down what we’d come up!

The ceremony site! WOW!

Alan did such a good job trying not to look at his lovely bride until she started walking up to the edge of the clift, where we were gathered. It was so sweet, when Kristina had to ask her father to let go of her hand! I tear up just thinking about it. There were some very touching moments that I can clearly recall… Kristina’s vows were so touching and sweet. Not only did I cry, right along with her, so did quite a few of her guests. She also had some trouble getting Alan’s ring on! Okay, a lot of trouble. hehe.

After the ceremony we worked our way back down the mountain with the bride and groom stopping along the way every now and then to grab some pictures. Eventually we ended up back at the Stanley and finished up our “We Did It” images. SO sweet! These two are total naturals in front of a lens or two! It was pretty neat to see all the other photographers there also, and every once in a while I’d catch them stealing one or two frames after we posed the couple.

Frame crasher!!

Congratulations my friend Suki-ta-ta and Alan. I love you both so dearly!

Accepting Great…

These are from Juliana and Nathan’s wedding at the Radison on July 13th, just a sampling. It was medieval themed and amazing! I remember so many neat things that Julie did to make their day special. I really loved that she took little pictures of them growing up and scattered them about on the tables… Nathan had his share of memories also, wearing shiny armor! One thing that clearly stands out in my mind, is when they cut the bottom of her dress off (the underside) with a small pocket knife– so she’d be able to walk with out tripping! I nearly dropped my camera. Many more images to come, but here are 36 to start you off….

When I started going thru this wedding, I found quite a few images that my flash didn’t go off, or SS wasn’t

fast enough… and initially I said… darn. But then I started looking at them a bit differently. These images bring me back to that ballroom. I hear the laughter, I smell the cake, I remember those little looks Nathan shot at his new wife. Isn’t that our job? Is that not what I was hired to do, to capture those moments, as their photographer? Sure, these images may not be technically correct. They might not be what everyone is looking for… but they are what I’m looking for. I want an image that says… creative and unique. I don’t care if it’s not perfect… I can accept great…. and to me- these are just that…. great images that have captivated me and reminded me of that day. I hope they do the same for others.
